Ads vs IAP Balance helps monetization PMs design hybrid monetization models where both ad revenue and IAP coexist without cannibalizing each other. The core tension is that showing ads to paying users reduces their purchase intent while suppressing ads from all players leaves ARPDAU on the table. This skill covers segment routing (suppressing ads for payers), cannibalization measurement, hybrid model archetypes by genre, and the decision logic for which players see which formats.

  • Designing a hybrid monetization model for a game that has both IAP and ads in its revenue mix
  • Evaluating whether ads are suppressing IAP conversion after a new format was added
  • Building the segmentation logic that routes payers away from interstitials while keeping rewarded video available

This skill resolves the co-existence decision between IAP and ads within a single game. It is used by monetization PMs and product leads. It supports decisions about payer-segmentation logic, which ad formats to suppress for which player cohorts, and how to measure cannibalization via holdout groups. It does NOT cover individual format design or IAP pricing — those belong to the respective iaa and iap module skills.

Stub — deepen iteratively via /t1k:sync-back as real usage drives priority. Priority sources for when deepening: brainstorm hybrid model archetypes, cannibalization holdout methodology.
