How to invoke
Section titled “How to invoke”/t1k:marketing:iap:battle-pass-designBattle Pass Design
Section titled “Battle Pass Design”This skill covers the structural design of battle pass systems as a subscription-adjacent IAP monetization layer. It addresses season length (30-day vs 60-day vs 90-day), track structure (free tier as acquisition hook vs premium tier as the conversion target), pacing curve (how quickly average players can complete the pass without grind fatigue), and late-buyer catch-up mechanics (compensating players who purchase after week 2). Monetization PMs, live-ops designers, and product leads use this skill when planning season cadence or when retention metrics around pass expiry show sharp drop-offs. It does NOT cover cosmetic item design or reward art — those are scope for the art/design team.
When to Use
Section titled “When to Use”- Planning the first battle pass for a title currently running purely transactional IAP
- Current battle pass shows < 30% completion rate (pacing too aggressive) or > 85% (pacing too easy, reduces buy-pressure)
- D30 retention drops sharply at pass expiry — players are not renewing for the next season
Purpose
Section titled “Purpose”Battle passes create recurring IAP revenue by tying progression rewards to a seasonal subscription. The free track must be compelling enough to drive engagement but leave clear gaps that justify the premium upgrade. The premium track must feel completable for a player with average session frequency — 45–60 min/day — or late buyers must receive accelerator items to catch up. Industry data (Sensor Tower, GameRefinery) consistently shows that battle passes with 30-day seasons and daily quest structures achieve higher renewal rates than longer seasons.
Status
Section titled “Status”Stub — deepen iteratively via /t1k:sync-back as real usage surfaces priority. Priority sources for when deepening: GameRefinery Battle Pass Benchmarks, Deconstructor of Fun season design teardowns.
